All About The Fendi Baguette

All About The Fendi Baguette

New York Fashion Week is coming to an end. We saw some iconic moments and some interesting fashion moments. I think the most iconic moment was when supermodel Linda Evangelista closed the Fendi x Tiffany collaboration. This was the 25th anniversary of the famous Baguette handbag, originally created in 1997 by Silvia Venturini Fendi.

This is the same show as the “snubbing” of Miss Kim Kardashian, however it was SJP aka Carrie Bradshaw who made the Fendi Baguette the iconic ”It” bag.

The Fendi Baguette garnered its fame by becoming the “it” girl bag amongst socialites, celebrities and fictional characters. The bag was designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi. She designed this shoulder bag to ensure it sat comfortably under someone's arm. The inspiration came from seeing the French carry a long thin baguette under their arms. Thus, in 1997, the Fendi Baguette was launched. In its first year, the baguette bag sold 100,000 units. It was said they owed the success to the Sex and The City series featuring the bag in season 3. The bag was featured in a purple sequin. The feature of the bag exploded Fendi into a household name - making it a cult staple in the fashion community. The bag from there on became highly covered and even garnered waitlists without the promise of ever getting one. The Fendi Baguette has since come in many variations, including but not limited to embellished, sequined, embroidered, limited edition, DIY, and even collaboration with celebrities and artists. During New York fashion week f/w 2022, Kim Jones celebrates 25 years of the baguette. The bag also comes in a micro-sized and double baguette. The bag has stood its test of time and has become a staple once again in 2022. Could it be from the reboot of Sex and The City?

Bag Enthuaists, do you own a baguette?
