Brief History of Celine

Brief History of Celine

Did you know that Celine was originally a made to measure children's shoe shop? That is 100% factual. In 1945, Celine Cipiana and husband Richard opened their first shop of made-to-order shoes, and they became notorious for their style. In the 1950s-1960s, the couple slowly made their mark in women's footwear and began their expansion into accessories and ready to wear sports collections. In 1996, Celine was purchased by LVMH (Louis Vuitton) in a $540 million dollar deal. Michael Kors was the first creative director of Celine in 1997. Kor’s made the brand desirable and well recognized in elite fashion. Since Kors, there have been 4 appointed creative directors changing the brand vision constantly.

Celine Luggage Tote

The Celine Luggage Tote is one of the most popular bags amongst the brand. In 2010, when it first launched under Creative Director Phoebe Philo, The bag blew up when the Olsen Twins were seen constantly wearing that bag. This bag has become a classic. It is functional with its squared bottom, winged out sides and top zipper. There is quite a bit of space. The outside zip pocket is perfect for quick access to a key, credit card or ID.  There are 5 sizes it comes in and it comes in various materials and colors.

Celine Phantom Tote

The Phantom Tote is similar to the Luggage tote. The phantom has wider “wings” and not as many sizes. The Phantom doesn't have  a zipper closure. The Phantom tote has a braided leather detail on the zipper. This is a close contender for the Luggage tote.

We also have to show appreciation for the Celine Trapeze Bags. It has a flap opening and elegant hardware throughout the bag. It has a similar shape to the Phantom Tote.
