Women In Fashion

Women In Fashion

Ah women, they do some of the great things! There are so many incredible women in fashion. Today, let's take a moment and honor them and the brands they have created and/or contributed to.

Coco Chanel

The famous Coco Chanel - if you were to google most famous women designer, guaranteed she is the first result. Considered by many to have been the greatest fashion force who ever lived. Coco Chanel changed the way women wore clothes - she capitalized on the changing times and she was a fashion icon. During the war, women only wore trousers when working a traditionally male job - Coco Chanel played a massive role in making trousers for women a popular fashion item.

Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski

The creative director of Hermes. Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp. She then became the design director of The Row. She has also worked for Celine. In 2014, she became the creative director of Hermes ready-to-wear and in 2015 she presented her first collection, with a strong equestrian theme, staying true to Hermes roots.

Maria Grazia Chiuri

Ladies and gentlemen, Dior’s creative director: Maria Grazia Chiuri. Maria Grazia Chiuri is quite an impressive woman; she spent 17 years working for Valentino and she also was the creative director of Fendi. In 2016, she was appointed creative director of Dior. She was the first woman in 69 years to lead the label creatively. She is heavily inspired by the feminist movement and it is reflected in her work.

Frida Giannini

Frida Giannini joined the Fendi team in 1997, designing ready to wear, and got promoted to designer of their leather goods. In 2002, she joined the Gucci team and was the design director of handbags (we have her to thank for some iconic designs). Gucci at the time was focused on monogram canvas bags and she was determined to go back to Gucci's Heritage. Based on the 1960s Grace Kelly scarf, she developed the "Flora" collection of colorful bags. In 2006, she was promoted to creative director of the entire Gucci label in 2002.
